Highlights & Post-Game Reaction: Blades 0 – Americans 2
Saskatoon, SK – The Saskatoon Blades were shutout for the second consecutive game on Saturday night, losing 2-0 to the Tri-City Americans. The Blades slip to 15-22-5-1 on the year, still trailing the Edmonton Oil Kings by 4 points for the final Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference.
Saskatoon came out with a better effort after being shutout in Moose Jaw on Friday, but quickly found themselves in a goaltenders duel. Logan Flodell was rock solid all night, as was his counter part Rylan Parenteau for the Americans. Parenteau, originally from Saskatoon, had plenty of friends and family in attendance and looked dialled in early on.
The first goal of the game came from Morgan Geekie late in the first period. An unassisted marker that beat Flodell through a crowd to put the Americans up 1-0 after 20 minutes.
The Blades didn’t get a chance on the power play until the middle frame, but couldn’t get anything by Parenteau. Saskatoon ended up going 0/4 on the man advantage in the game. Try-City did manage to get one power play goal; an empty netter from Nolan Yaremko with only 6 seconds left in the game.
Logan Flodell made 33 saves on the night, but was unfortunately dinged with his 13th loss of the season. Flodell was named second star of the game behind Saskatoon product Rylan Parenteau who stopped all 25 shots he faced for his first shutout of the season.
The Blades will now have two days of practice to try and rekindle their offense. The Calgary Hitmen come to Saskatoon on Tuesday for a crucial match up in the standings. The Hitmen currently sit 3 points behind the Blades, but have 4 games in hand. Puck drop is at 7:00pm at SaskTel Centre, and tickets can be purchased online here.
