RECAP: Blades torn up by Tigers
The Saskatoon Blades made their final stop of the season in Medicine Hat Friday night, and certainly won’t miss the Canalta Centre after falling 7-2 to the Tigers. The loss snaps a three game win streak for the Blades who now sit at 6-8-1-0 on the season. Saskatoon will board the bus and head north to Edmonton for the final stop on the trip tomorrow night against the Oil Kings.
The Blades actually had a good start to this one, opening the scoring less than five minutes in. Josh Paterson cleaned up a rebound on the edge of the crease after Cam Hebig was denied by Jordan Hollett. Libor Hájek picked up the secondary assist on Paterson’s 4th of the season. Saskatoon also outshot the Tigers in the first period 13-12, but for the final 40 minutes only mustered 9 shots towards the Medicine Hat goal while allowing a whopping 28 on their own.
From there the Tigers scored 7 unanswered goals to put an exclamation point on their two game slide prior to this game. Two of the goals came before the end of the first period, when it seemed the Blades still had a chance. But three consecutive minor penalties to start the middle period eventually resulted in a fourth goal from the home team. After that, the Blades looked as though it was already over as the Tigers continued to pour it on.
Cam Hebig did score on the power play in the final frame, giving the Blades a 50% success rate on the man advantage in the game, but the it was already out go reach at that point.
Joel Grzybowski came in for the 3rd period after Ryan Kubic was hung out to dry allowing 5 goals on 28 shots. Grzybowski went 10/12 in his 20 minutes of work.
The Blades can still salvage the road trip as they visit the Edmonton Oil Kings Saturday night for their season series opener at Rogers Place.
The next Blades home game is Friday, November 10th for Salute our Veterans & Forces Night versus the Swift Current Broncos. Click here for tickets or call 306.975.8844 to book your group night or experience package!
