Niemi Drafted in 3rd Round

Congratulations to Jyri Niemi and his family on him being selected by the New York Islanders in the 3rd Round (72nd Overall) in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.

Niemi is an original Saskatoon Blades 1st round (13th overall) in the 2007 CHL Import Draft. Niemi was ranked 25th in the NHL's Final Central Scouting rankings amongst North American players. Scored first career WHL goal on September 26th, 2007. Jyri won the Hardest Shot competition at the 2008 CHL/NHL Home Hardware Top Prospects game with a 97 mile per hour slapshot.

Finished 2nd amongst Blades defenseman in scoring in 2008/09 and was tied for 6th (1st amongst rookies) in the Western Hockey League with 14 goals (defenseman).
