Blades Collide with Wheat Kings on SHAW-TV

The Saskatoon Blades travel to Brandon tonight in search of a vital win against the division contending rival Wheat Kings. Game time is 7:00 pm.
Head-to-Head
This marks the eighth and final matchup of the season between the Blades and Wheat Kings this year. The Blades are 3-3-1-0 against Brandon this season. The Wheaties, meanwhile, come into the game with a 4-2-1-0 record in the head-to-head matchups.
Stefan Elliott (North Vancouver, BC) leads the Blades scoring attack against the Wheat Kings with two goals and five assists for seven points this season. Walker Wintoneak (Flin Flon, MB) follows with two goals and four assists for six points.
In between the pipes, Steven Stanford (Calgary, AB) is 3-1-1-0 against the Wheat Kings this season with a 3.74 goals against average and a .879 save percentage. Adam Morrison (White Rock, BC) is 0-2 with a 5.10 goals against average and a .870 save percentage.
Brayden Schenn leads the Wheat Kings’ charge against Saskatoon with two goals and ten assists for twelve points. Schenn’s linemate Matt Calvert has nine goals and two assists for eleven points.
In goal for the Wheat Kings, Andrew Hayes is 2-1 against the Blades with a 3.04 goals against average and a .897 save percentage. Jacob De Serres, meanwhile, is 2-1-1-0 to go along with a 2.17 goals against average and a .910 save percentage.
Saskatoon Blades
The Blades (43-15-3-4, 93 points, 1st in East Division, 2nd in Eastern Conference) had their four-game point streak come to an end on Saturday night with a 3-0 loss to the Regina Pats at home. Morrison stopped 26 of 28 shots in a losing cause in net.
Derek Hulak (Saskatoon, SK) leads the Blades in scoring coming into tonight’s game with 29 goals and 46 assists for 75 points this season. Wintoneak, an overage forward, is second in team scoring with 23 goals and 45 assists for 68 points. Elliott is third with 23 goals and 37 assists for 60 points and is tied for third for WHL defensemen in scoring.
Stanford has appeared in 39 games this season and has a 26-7-3-1 record with a 2.71 goals against average (9th in the WHL) and a .901 save percentage. Morrison is 17-10-0-3 with a 3.07 goals against average and .900 save percentage in 32 appearances.
The Blades power play is ranked 19th in the WHL at 15.7%. The penalty killing unit is 6th in the league at 82.0%.
Brandon Wheat Kings
The Wheat Kings (44-18-1-3, 92 points, 2nd in East Division, 3rd in Eastern Conference) enter the game on a two-game winning streak. The home squad extended the streak with a 5-3 victory over the Prince Albert Raiders on Saturday evening.
Brandon is led offensively by both Calvert and Schenn.  Calvert, an overager, has 40 goals and 43 assists for 83 points on the season. Schenn, an 18-year-old, has 28 goals and 55 assists for 83 points. Aaron Lewadniuk is third with 31 goals and 45 assists for 76 points. Colby Robak leads the Wheaties’ rearguards with 14 goals and 46 assists for 60 points and is tied for third for WHL defensemen.
In between the pipes, Hayes leads the Wheat Kings in appearances this season with 39 and has a 22-12-0-2 record with a 2.76 goals against average (T-10th in the WHL) and a .903 save percentage. De Serres is 22-8-1-1 with a 2.93 goals against average and a .899 save percentage.
The home side is ranked 9th in the league in power play efficiency at 21.4%. The Wheaties’ penalty killing unit is 17th overall in the WHL at 76.9%.
