Blades acquire Cole Bevan, seventh round pick

SASKATOON – General Manager and Head Coach Bob Woods announced today that the Saskatoon Blades have acquired ’96-born defenceman Cole Bevan and a 2015 seventh round draft choice from the Swift Current Broncos in exchange for defenceman Ayrton Nikkel.

Bevan, a 6-foot-1, 208-pound product of Cloverdale, BC, has appeared in 18 career games with the Broncos, recording two assists and nine penalty minutes. The 18-year-old was originally drafted by the Broncos in the 10th round – 213th overall – in 2011.

Nikkel, 19, appeared in 60 career games with the Blades, posting five goals, 15 points and 95 penalty minutes.

“We want to think Ayrton for his contributions to the Blades organization,” Managing Partner Colin Priestner said. “He’s been a warrior for us and we wish him nothing but the best in Swift Current.

“We’re extremely excited about the acquisition of Cole Bevan. Entering his second WHL season, we believe he’ll be a solid addition to our roster, adding both size and skill to our back end.”
