This will be Fiala’s second time attending an NHL development camp after getting an invite from the Florida Panthers in 2015. The formidable blue liner who is set to enter his final year of junior hockey this fall with the Blades isn’t taking this opportunity lightly and hopes he can make an impression on the Red Wings brass.
“I am excited and a little nervous too. I went to Florida’s camp two years ago and I never received a call back. It made me think I may never get another chance,” explained Fiala. “But I’ve been working hard for this opportunity. I just want to leave it all out there and see what happens.”
Evan has played parts of four season in the WHL totalling 195 regular season career games. During that span the he’s earned a reputation as one of the toughest defenders to play against racking up 349 penalty minutes to go along with 10 goals and 40 assists.
