Tonight – The Saskatoon Blades pay their first visit of the season to the Kootenay ICE. The first meeting of the season for the 2 clubs was last Saturday in Saskatoon… the Blades won 4-2, lead by Gage Ramsay who had 2 goals and an assist. The Blades have went 8-2 in their last 10 outings and will look to make it 2 wins in a row to extend their 7 point cushion over the PA Raiders in the Eastern Conference playoff race.
The opponent – The ICE haven’t played at home since New Years Day and have lost 6 straight, so they’ll be looking to treat their fans to a win today. Veteran Alec Baer and rookie sensation Peyton Krebs lead the team in scoring with 36 and 35 points respectively.
For Saskatoon – Another lacklustre effort last night still resulted in a win for the Blades, but they’ll need to show a little more urgency tonight. The Blades rode the bus overnight form Red Deer and with the early 4:00pm start time they can’t afford to put themselves behind the 8-ball in this one. But the last time the Blades were in these circumstances they showed in Portland and stunned one of the top teams in the league with a 4-0 shutout, so hopefully history repeats itself for the Blades.
The lineup – The Blades have 3 affiliate players on the trip and including 8 healthy d-men, so there could be some shuffling today. Veteran netminder Tyler Brown was acquired on Wednesday and has backed up Nolan Maier twice, so there’s a good chance Brown will get his first start in a pacman uniform today.
Injury report:
F Caleb Fantillo – lower body, 2-3 weeks
F Kirby Dach – upper body, week-to-week
F Michael Farren – upper body, 1-2 weeks
