Graduating forward Markson Bechtold will be continuing his playing career next season at the University of Waterloo, Ontario with the Waterloo Warriors. Markson was acquired by the Blades in December of 2016 from the Spokane Chiefs in a blockbuster deal which saw Nolan Reid and Wyatt Sloboshan shipped to Spokane for Bechtold and current Blade, Evan Fiala. Bechtold suited up for 20 games with the Bridge City Bunch, tallying 7 points and 47 penalty minutes along the way.
“I’m very excited to be able to continue my career and pursue my dream of one day playing hockey professionally. I also understand the importance of education, so to be able to play in the CIS for Waterloo is an excellent opportunity to continue to develop on the ice while attending university, and I’m extremely excited!” said Bechtold.
Bechtold played a total of 231 regular season games in the WHL, finishing his junior career with 100 points and 255 penalty minutes.
