RECAP: Chiefs charge past Blades on Wednesday in Spokane

Spokane, WA – Evan Fiala’s return to Spokane was spoiled by his former team as the Chiefs rolled over the Blades 6-2 on Wednesday night. The loss drops the Blades record to 10-13-2-1 on the season. Next up for the Blades are the Everett Silvertips on Saturday night.

The Blades opened the scoring for the second straight night as Kirby Dach got a lucky bounce with his shot ricocheting off the post and then off a Chiefs defender and in. Libor Hájek picked up the helper. The Chiefs were quick to respond as Ethan McIndoe scored a pair of goals to put his club ahead 2-1 after 20 minutes of play.

Kirby Dach was at it again in the second period tying the game with his 2nd goal of the night and 3rd of the season finishing off a nice pass from Alec Zawatsky. Later in the frame, the Blades were gifted with an extended 5-on-3 for 1:17. Saskatoon failed to capitalize on the man advantage and it seemed to be the turning point of the game. Spokane scored immediately as the penalty expired.

The Chiefs went on to score four unanswered goals skating to a 6-2 victory while outshooting the Blades 38-25. Saskatoon’s power play was absent going 0/4 on the night and didn’t get much help from the penalty kill that was just 3/5. There was also a scary moment in the 3rd period for the Blades as forward Caleb Fantillo collided with a Chief defender knee on knee. Fantillo needed help to get off the ice and did not return.

Nolan Maier had a busy night between the pipes making 32 saves on 38 shots. Meanwhile, Donavon Buskey only had to make 23 saves for the win and just one in the final 20 minutes.

The Blades will now have two days off to rest and prepare for their next stop on the road trip on Saturday night as they visit the Everett Silvertips.
