The Saskatoon Blades have named 18 year old defenceman Duncan Siemens as the team captain.
The Sherwood Park, Alberta product is entering his third full season with the Blades after being the 3rd overall selection in the 2008 WHL bantam draft. Siemens was also drafted into the NHL this past summer by the Colorado Avalanche. He was taken in the 1st round, 11th overall.
Siemens will serve as the 52nd captain in Blades team history.
“A leadership role is something I enjoy taking on, it’s just part of my personality”, said Siemens. He also says that his recent experience at camp with the Avalanche will go a long way. “I learned a lot of things about how to prepare on and off the ice, juts making sure we are ready to go for every game and every shift.”
Forward Brent Benson and defenceman Darren Dietz will serve as assistant captains to Siemens.
“You look at Duncan, Brent and Darren and they’ve all earned the respect of their teammates”, said Blades Head Coach and General Manager Lorne Molleken.
“Their presence on and off the ice is critical and they are three individuals that care about their teammates and will do whatever it takes to make everyone better. They all work extremely hard and when they come to the rink they want to be the best.”
The Blades return to action this coming Friday as they play host to the Red Deer Rebels. Puck drop goes at 7:05 PM.
