TRADE: Blades and Hawks complete swap

Red Deer, Alta. – The Saskatoon Blades completed a trade during Thursday’s WHL Bantam Draft.

The Blades sent ’02 defenseman, Kurtis Smythe, to the Portland Winterhawks in exchange for the 70th over pick in the 2018 draft.

“We were unable to sign Kurtis to a contract so we felt moving him to a team closer to home would give him a better chance of playing in the league,” explained Blades General Manager Colin Priestner.┬áThe pick acquired from Portland was then used to select defenseman, Charlie Wright, from the Red Deer Bantam AAA Rebels.

“Charlie is a player we had our eye on so when we had an opportunity to acquire a pick and get him, we didn’t want to take the chance of missing out, so we made the deal.”
