World U18 Update: Rubinchik & Russia fall to USA, Scharff & Canada go 2-0

On Saturday both members of the Saskatoon Blades returned to action at the World Under 18 Championships in Slovakia after opening the tournament with wins on Thursday.

Blades defenseman, Mark Rubinchik, tallied two assists and two penalty minutes for Team Russia in a 5-4 losing effort to the United States. The loss drops Russia to 1-1 and they will continue action on Monday against Belarus. Russia will then close out the preliminary round on Tuesday versus Czech Republic.

Blades Head Equipment Manager Chad Scharff and Team Canada improved to 2-0 after a thrilling 4-3 win over the host Slovakians. Canada will take on Switzerland tomorrow and wrap up preliminary play on Tuesday against the reigning champions from Finland.

The tournament will take a break on Wednesday before kicking off the playoff rounds on Thursday.
