Blades Acquire Thomson, Lipon, 1st From Blazers

The Saskatoon Blades and general manager Lorne Molleken are extremely pleased to announce a trade with the Kamloops Blazers.

The Blades have acquired 1996-born defenceman Jordan Thomson, 1996-born forward Mitch Lipon and a 1st round pick in the 2015 WHL Bantam Draft from Kamloops.  In exchange for the trio of pieces the Blades have dealt centre Matt Revel, a 3rd round pick in the 2016 WHL Bantam Draft and a conditional 2nd round pick in the 2014 WHL Bantam Draft to the Blazers.

“We’re extremely pleased to add some very talented young pieces with this trade,” said Blades general manager Lorne Molleken.  “Jordan Thomson is a former 1st round pick in this league and possesses a very good skillset on the blueline.  Mitch Lipon brings skill and energy up front to our team, adding to what we feel is a solid group of 1996-born players on our roster.  We’re also very happy to add a 1st round pick in this deal as we continue to shape our roster for future years.”

Thomson is the former 4th overall selection in the 2011 WHL Bantam Draft by the Kamloops Blazers.  He appeared in 20 games this season for Kamloops, putting up 7 assists and 20 PIMs.  Last season the 5’11, 174 pound blueliner from Wawanesa, Manitoba registered 2 goals and 14 points in 47 games during his rookie WHL season.

Lipon is a 5’8 centre from Regina, Saskatchewan.  He’s currently in his 1st full WHL season, having posted 2 goals, 7 points and 14 PIMs in 31 games with the Blazers this season.  Last season he played with the Regina Pats Canadians M-AAA team, putting up 20 goals and 51 points in 44 games.  He was a 7th round choice by the Prince George Cougars in the 2011 WHL Bantam Draft.

The Saskatoon Blades would like to welcome both Jordan Thomson and Mitch Lipon and their families to the organization.

The Blades next game goes on Friday night when they travel to meet the Swift Current Broncos.  The Blades are then back on home ice the next night to meet the Regina Pats.  You can find tickets for that game by clicking here.
