The Blades went West looking for some wins on a three day Alberta roadtrip, but things haven’t gone according to plan – a 7-1 loss to Edmonton on Friday night was followed by a tough 5-2 defeat in Red Deer on Saturday. Now the team heads to Calgary for an afternoon matchup with the Hitmen, looking for a victory and the much needed two points that come with it.
“We need to start strong, to give maximum effort” said Coach Bob Woods. “We haven’t had that often enough, and if you’re not ready to go against the great teams, you’re in big trouble”.
The Blades haven’t been helping themselves out on special teams during this roadtrip – far too many penalties, and a shorthanded goal in Red Deer on Saturday. Defenceman Nelson Nogier knows that needs to change.
“Smart play, thats what it comes down to. Our offensive guys can’t be the ones taking the penalties. We need our best guys out there, to play smart, and to work hard”.
“We need to give it our all” said Cameron Hebig, who scored in Saturday’s game against the Rebels. “Short shifts, maximum effort. We have a break after this game, so no excuses for conserving effort”.
The Blades will have a five day break after this tough three-games-in-three-days trip, before playing host to Swift Current on November 22nd, in the second annual Pucks & Paws game, where fans can bring their dog to the game.
