Blades still alive in the playoff race heading into Friday
The Saskatoon Blades still have a fighting chance at squeezing into the post-season this weekend. Last night in Red Deer, the Rebels did the Blades a favour and downed the Calgary Hitmen 5-1.
The Blades still sit 3 points behind the Hitmen for the final playoff spot, meaning Saskatoon will have to win both remaining games in a home & home series versus Prince Albert this weekend.
Here are the possible scenarios:
- The Hitmen close out the regular season against the Kootenay ICE; Friday in Cranbrook and Saturday in Calgary. If Calgary loses both, and Saskatoon wins both, the Blades are in.
- The Hitmen get 1 point and the Blades win both, Saskatoon will host a tie-breaker game on Tuesday.
- The Blades earn 3 points and the Hitmen lose both games, Calgary will host the tie-breaker game on Tuesday.
- Calgary earns 2 points in any fashion, the Blades are out.
It’s a long shot, but it definitely sets the stage for a massive game Friday night at SaskTel Centre between the Blades and Raiders.
Game time is 7:00pm, and doors open at 5:30pm to accommodate the expected large crowd. The lower bowl is almost sold out, and tickets are going fast. The 50/50 starts at $50,000, prizes will be given away EVERY whistle, and there is also a chance to win a 2 year lease on a 2017 Ford Focus form Merlin Ford.
