Saskatoon, SK– The Saskatoon Blades swept their season series with the Swift Current Broncos thanks to a 8-1 drubbing of them on Saturday night in Saskatoon.
12 different Blades found the scoresheet in the teams 30th win of the season as the Blades are now just two points back of the Wheat Kings for third place in the Eastern Division.
The Broncos would be the ones opening the scoring but the Blades would reply with eight straight. First it was Alex Morozoff who went in on the odd man rush and dropped it back to Chase Wouters who fired home his 24th of the season. Morozoff would then add a goal of his own as Aiden De La Gorgendiere held the puck up top and threw it on net which was tipped in by Morozoff for his 9th of the season. Saskatoon would make their lead 3-1 on a tip by Zach Huber. De La Gorgendiere took a pass from Riley McKay and then fed Nolan Kneen who one timed the puck and Huber got a piece for his 14th. Saskatoon would lead 3-1 after the first and held a 19-6 shot advantage.
In the second period the Blades would kill off an early penalty and then add to their lead. First it was Martin Fasko-Rudas getting his 12th goal of the season on a nice feed from Rhett Rhinehart as the teams skated four on four. The Broncos would then take a five minute major as a check left Huber bleeding on the ice and the Blades would make Swift Current pay. Wouters would get his second of the game as a Scott Walford shot from the point was deflected, after review the goal stood for Wouters 25th of the season and giving the Blades a commanding lead.
Saskatoon lead 5-1 going into the third and would continue to dominate the play. Kneen would take the puck wide and throw it on net and it was Tristen Robins on the doorstep there for a rebound and his 29th of the season. The Blades then scored on a nice passing play for the second straight night and it was once again Caiden Daley as the beneficiary. McKay gained the zone and dropped to Radek Kucerik who then fed Daley backdoor for his 6th of the season. Fasko-Rudas would jam home his second of the game with just 33 seconds to go as the Blades took this one 8-1 while leading the shot clock 54-18.
De La Gorgendiere was named the games first star as he finished the night with four assists and a plus four rating. Wouters had two goals and Fasko-Rudas had two goals and an assist in the game. Nolan Maier made 17 saves for his 18th victory of the season.
The Blades have the next six days off before a home and home series with the Prince Albert Raiders which goes Friday night in Saskatoon before the teams play at the Art Hauser Centre on Saturday.
