Blades strike deal with Silvertips, acquire two picks for Chadwick

Saskatoon, SK – The Saskatoon Blades have traded goaltender Ethan Chadwick to the Everett Silvertips in exchange for two WHL Prospect Draft picks. The picks include the Kamloops Blazers 2023 second-round pick and the Silvertips fourth-round selection in 2025.

Born and raised in Saskatoon, SK, Chadwick was drafted by the Blades in the third-round of the 2019 WHL Prospects Draft. The 6-foot netminder heads west with a 29-12-1-1 record and .895 save-percentage through 46 career WHL games, all with the Blue and Gold. Chadwick recorded his first career shutout this season on Nov. 12th vs the Edmonton Oil Kings, stopping all 21 shots faced. The former Saskatoon Contact finished with two shutouts on the season.

“Ethan was a fantastic ambassador for our team over the last two seasons,” said Blades General Manager, Colin Priestner, “He was instrumental in our playoff run to the conference finals and he is very deserving of the chance to be a starting goalie in this league.”

Chadwick appeared in ten games during the 2023 WHL Playoffs finishing 5-3-1-0. The 19-year-old won games 3,4, and 5 vs the Regina Pats in Round 1 vs the Regina Pats to help bring the Blades back in the series. Facing a 3-0 deficit in Round 2 vs the Red Deer Rebels, Chadwick won back-to-back elimination matchups in games 3 and 4 to begin the historic series comeback.

“This was not an easy situation to navigate with two great goalies who each played a pivotal role in our success this year,” said Priestner, “With two 19-year-old starting goalies who are both deserving of being starters in the league, we made this move to give Ethan the opportunity he deserves with a great franchise in Everett.”
