Shmyr makes ECHL debut, tallies first goal


The Saskatoon Blades’ reigning scoring champ and two-time top forward is already back in action.┬áBraylon Shmyr signed a standard professional contract on Wednesday with the Allen Americans of the ECHL.

Shmyr completed his junior career on Saturday after playing his 300th game in the Western Hockey League. Over those 300 games, Shmyr complied 111 goals and 240 points; his best showing coming this past season posting 88 points while appearing in all 72 regular season contests.

Shmyr made his professional debut on Wednesday night in Allen, Texas, when the Americans played host to the Tulsa Oilers. Shmyr scored in the first period, had 2 shots on goals, and finished the night with a +2 rating in a 3-2 loss. Shmyr was also named the 3rd star of the game.
