Saskatoon, SK – An exciting weekend is coming up at SaskTel Centre.
Two of the CHL’s top teams battle as the Saskatoon Blades (15-4-0-0) host the Winnipeg ICE (20-2-0-0) for back-to-back nights.
Riding a four-game win streak, the Blades shot up to seventh in the latest CHL Top 10 rankings. Winnipeg topped the list, followed by their longest win streak in franchise history (15) ending Tuesday night at the hands of the Lethbridge Hurricanes.
Friday’s the first meeting of the season between the two clubs, pitting the league’s top defence and offence against one another. Saskatoon’s only allowed 36 goals against this season, the least in the WHL, while Winnipeg has tallied the most with 102. The ICE got the better of Saskatoon last year winning six of their eight meetings, with Saskatoon outscoring Winnipeg 13-4 in their two victories.
In the rematch the following night the Blades team up with Discover Saskatoon to bring you “Pride Night” – a night dedicated to the celebration of inclusion and acceptance in our community.
The Blades will show off their new, limited edition jerseys decorated in pride markings. Last year’s white style jersey is replaced with blue, and includes a rainbow-themed Pacman, rainbow stripes on the arms and waist, and multi-coloured socks. Each jersey is unique, replacing the player’s name with a word directly connected to the Pride Community.
Fans will have an opportunity to own one of these authentic styled jerseys through a week-long online auction. Stay tuned for details on the live, online auction, so you can own one of these memorable jerseys of your favourite player!
