Sticks, skates, jerseys…and cowboys hats?! Thats what fans can expect to see tonight, as its Country Night at the rink! Fans are encouraged to wear their best country gear – boots, jeans, and of course hats. There will be many giveaways as well, including PBR tickets for an upcoming event, and professional bull rider Tanner Byrne will drop the puck.
On the ice, the Blades will play host to the Seattle Thunderbirds. The boys in blue come in on a four game losing streak, and are looking to right the ship against the T-Birds, who have won their last two.
“We haven’t seen Seattle yet, so it’ll be a challenge” says Blades captain Brett Stovin. “We do know they’re a high powered team, they skate well, so we need to stick to our system, limit penalties, and play smart”.
Its a quick turnaround for the Blades, as they were in Brandon on Friday night, before travelling back on the bus through the night. Head Coach Bob Woods had the team come in for an afternoon meeting to get prepared.
“We got here early this morning on the bus, went home, slept a bit” said Woods. “But we can’t let the young guys sleep all day or they’ll be tired tonight, so we came in, talked a bit, got mentally prepared for Seattle tonight, and as long as we stay focused, give full effort, we should be ok”.
With several defence men out with injury, Brett Stovin will move from forward to defence for the second game in a row. Stovin played well in Brandon, tallying a goal and assist. Trevor Martin will get the start in net, after coming in to replace Alex Moodie midway through the first frame Friday night.
Tickets are still available for the game. Visit www.ticketmaster.ca, or by calling the Sasktel Centre Box Office at 306-938-7800.
